The ‘Agile Organisational Development Wheel’ describes the long-term development process of an entire organisation. Unlike the previous illustration of a single retrospective, this model shows the ongoing evolution: many learning cycles build on one another and lead to the organisation’s steady maturation. The movement of the wheels along an incline symbolises that organisational development is not a one-off change project, but a continuous process. Through many small improvements, profound changes in collaboration and leadership can emerge.
The foundation is laid by shared values and principles, which serve as a guide for hypotheses, experiments and decisions. Different perspectives are not judged as absolutely right or wrong, but are assessed according to how helpful they are for the organisation’s further development. The wedge depicted beneath the wheel represents the embedding of successful changes. Through standardisation, new skills, processes and structures are permanently secured, ensuring that the organisation does not revert to previous patterns.
The model thus views organisational development as continuous learning: through experimentation, the organisation gains new insights, integrates successful solutions and develops its adaptability step by step.
