
In a self-managed organisation, the traditional hierarchy is turned on its head: it is not management that sets the direction, but the market and the customers. The teams with direct customer contact make the key decisions, as they are best placed to understand the market’s requirements.
The support functions within the organisation, on the other hand, act as service providers for these teams. They deliver their services according to the ‘Org-Shop’ principle: the value-adding teams on the periphery use exactly the support they need at any given moment – no more and no less.
